Title:Bryneven presents Encapsulation with Purple Mash’s 2Logo Coding class

DESCRIPTION:Bryneven Primary offers the coding class -a bi-weekly lesson- on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays in the fourth term. Here, we promote Tuesday, October 15th 2019: a
lesson on encapsulating (containing) our code in a procedure, and then calling a
procedure that draws the main shapes. In procedures, we use lines of code to
move the pen in a controlled manner. The main discussion of how robotics and
human knowledge are related – with its logic, patterns, etc. It is like code
that refers to the controls behind the natural movement of arms and legs
(cybernetics). Cybernetics is widely used in the biological sciences: hence my
link to brain connections – communication processes and control mechanisms. Here
I am trying to make a rather brief comparison using processes – in essence,
drawing an image – when introducing biological systems (brain and knowledge) and
artificial (robotics), remember that participating students are from 8 to 11
years old. We use 2Logo Purple Mash to learn how various commands can be
contained; suitably organized in accordance with well-appointed procedures. The
lesson explores the repetition -using the square brackets with the sequence of
commands- moving a pen. A procedure also engages with the pen up and pen down
commands, which move and reposition the pen. Mr Bradley teaches for the Gauteng
Department of Education. Mr Bradley teaches at Bryneven Primary School. This is
a public school in Bryanston, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. Bryneven
Primary has introduced coding dynamics -using Purple Mash- since 2017.

Title:Bryneven uses Purple Mash to explore Shape Properties

DESCRIPTION:Bryneven Primary offers Grade 5 students a lesson on October 14th: analyzing the
properties of moving shapes, such as color, number of sides, angle of motion,
and so on. We explore this by using Purple Mash’s Shapes. We encourage students
to experiment – which is the basis of training (experience) to create their own.
This comes by doing the challenges of the activity. We use a button, a timer
control to control these functions. This creates a scintillating movement of
changing shapes crossing the screen. We do this using the random function to let
the computer make the necessary changes. Mr Bradley is a Gauteng Department of
Education teacher. He teaches at Bryneven Primary School. This is a public
school in Bryanston, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. Bryneven Primary has
introduced coding dynamics -using Purple Mash- since 2017.

Title:Bryneven Coding with 2Logo to make a artistic pattern

DESCRIPTION:This coding lesson links in with the current Purple Mash classes; being done
during formal day. Here is work that builds on that understanding. This
particular lesson is streamed from the early code lesson -touched by the
experience of the Intermediate phase learners (grade 4 to 6). In this lesson we
explore with 2Logo; creating an automated art piece – the design aspect lie
within the procedure. The steps and direction taken by the pen: the cursor is
moving with left and right turns, in degrees; the cursor is also crossing the
space with forward movements -each step helps the learner see how to work within
the available space, on the screen. We look at the movement procedure building
up – providing a pattern that fits -with the up, down and colour featuring. This
lesson took place on the 8th of October – with the younger group of coders (8 to
10 yrs). Bryneven Primary School has been using Purple Mash for over 2 years.
This website has facilitated a valuable coding base -from which learners can
build a thorough understanding. What is most fascinating about this lesson? The
way the given code pieces translate – into unexpected patterns. Very often,
forms are foreshadowed, come about in an unexpected way -based on the movement
of the pen across the paper. Here we have the screen – with the movement of the
cursor. Yet, in this movement, combinations brings forth a delightful complex
patterning – with unique features. Mr Bradley teaches for the Gauteng Department
of Education. Mr Bradley teaches at Bryneven Primary School. This is a public

Title:Bryneven’s Mr Bradley Presents Shapes in 2Logo with Grade 6s

DESCRIPTION:In this Bryneven Purple Mash lesson we explore how different shapes are related
to code. To do this, we build a square with a forward motion and a 90 degree
rotation using 2Logo in 2Simple’s Purple Mash. We identify the code that creates
the different shapes, namely the square, the circle and the octagon, as well as
the correct procedure. From this source figure, we experiment by looking at each
figure with the equivalent code behind its construction. Repositioning the pen:
using the movement with ‘pen up’ and ‘Pen down’ commands. This provides us with
the means to reposition the pen on the screen’s x and y axes. Today’s lesson is
an interesting exploration of translating code into procedures using Purple
Mash. We need to see how this opens up huge potential for mathematics teachers.
The shape forms are part of the curriculum, which includes the study of the
properties of different forms – the size of the forms being indicated in steps.
Mr Bradley is a GDE teacher; working for the department of education at Bryneven
Primary School in Johannesburg South Africa. Bryneven primary school has been
using Purple Mash for over two years. We look forward to future developments
-having more teachers using it in their lessons.

Title:Bryneven Primary’s Mr Bradley Simulated Sunsets with Gr 3

DESCRIPTION:Bryneven Primary presents a coding lesson, using 2Simple’s Purple Mash. This is
a 30 minute lesson -with 9 year olds. In this lesson we simulate the alternating
appearance and disappearance of objects, with a timer control. The focus of the
lesson is to provide and identify with the transformation of day into night. We
explore more in the basic logic: by using a timer control. The timer control and
other objects are dragged into the code section -to provide the appropriate
behaviour. There positioning provides the system logic -which is the main point
of the lesson. After a five second point in time: we brings a transformation
-yellow background. At the 10 second interval -this background property changes
to black, through the work of another timer control. The 10 second interval
brings the change to the background property, it becomes black. This is an
experiment with grade 3 learners. My initial expectation was: that this Activity
would be to difficult for them. However, the activity was completed by so many
learners -esp., using the knowledge in observing this presentation. Almost half
the class managed to get through to the fifth challenge. Mr Bradley is a GDE
teacher; working for the department of education at Bryneven Primary School in
Johannesburg South Africa. Bryneven primary school has been using Purple Mash
for over two years. We look forward to further developments -having more
teachers using it in their lessons.

New Video Upload : Bryneven Primary Khai Naicker discusses films in Purple Mash

Youtube Video Postings

Title:Bryneven Primary Khai Naicker discusses films in Purple Mash

DESCRIPTION:Bryneven learner Khai Naicker is REMARKABLE; HE IS in Grade 2. Yet, he is
already one of Bryneven Primary School’s great film producers. Kai speaks with a
passion, he is thoughtful and the viewer can see a dedicated study -this allows
us to touch the depths of what makes “remarkable things” in his art and in the
construction of an artist. In this conversation, Khai discusses subject that
stimulate him towards film studies; this 8 year old engages in this craft using
2Animate. 2Animate is an animating tool, found in 2Simple’s Purple Mash. Mr
Bradley and two other learners cover five key conversations on his primary
works. The topic moves through a discussion of pirate ships, natural elements,
space, sharks, water, wind and benthic organisms, etc. You will find Khai
interaction thoughtful and pointing to what creativity lies waiting to be
released -as he is nurtured through schooling. You will think about Khai’s
commitment and find out what creativity still is to be released largely through
his natural move in this side of education. Mr Bradley teaches for the Gauteng
Department of Education at Mr Erin Bradley teaches at Bryneven Primary School.

Title:Erin Bradley is an IT teacher with an interest in how tools facilitate and develop creativity

DESCRIPTION:Here we are involved in animating. This lesson complements the previous video
that dealt with the topic of using the slideshow. This naturally is the 2Simpler
version of Flash, purely for children -so: consider how Flash looks then
2Animate in 2Simple sense. I hope this video will facilitate your entry into the
Mash projects at Bryneven. It is the dynamic movement of picture that forms the
basis of this work (video). In particular, here we have improved sharing and
collaboration opportunities via Purple Mash’s cloud dynamic. The value of Mash
Mash -of course- is that it creates confidence by nature of what it is: design,
21st century child-centredness in the cloud. The evidence is what it brings to
creativity viz., the enthusiasm in using the 2animate tool. It is a bit
necessary to encourage children to use the array of tools: lead them towards the
future of learning and active learning. Lets Remind ourselves: We are inclined
to forgot the tool, for a while: 2Animate has – once again – regained a place in
the moment -with much enthusiasm. I am alluding back into our history i.e., in
2018 we created a short video about animation with 2Animate. In this section, we
make use of the export button: that takes us to the downloaded, animated GIF
file. Simplicity, child-friendly design, and cloud-friendly engagement make
sharing and collaboration easier. 2Animate offers children a simple tool: a new
way to explore animation. I forgot to mention the possibility of adding a sound
recording to the animation work. Please have fun! The children we teach, most
teachers, have to take into account the tools and resources -accumalate what is
found at the end of this rainbow. Purple Mash promotes, with this features
highly and points us towards project work (education). Mr Bradley teaches for
the Gauteng Department of Education at Mr Erin Bradley teaches at Bryneven

New Video Upload : Bryneven html using the iframe from Purple Mash

Youtube Video Postings

Title:Bryneven html using the iframe from Purple Mash

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the lesson on Wednesday the 18th of September. Just as the brain
tells you to act; almost the same in robotic activity. There is a code called
logic – behind the robot’s controlled movement. As we see how objects move from
one place to another, on the screen; we have robotic movement according to a
code -the connection of what makes that system. If you press the Forward button
then the robot could move in a given direction. There is a connection with the
buttons and the robotic parts, controlling its movement. We explore further into
our HTML, hypertext markup language -connecting files through Purple Mash. This
internet based code, html, was developed by the well-known computer scientist,
Tim Berners-Lee. He was a really good programmer. We go into extracting the
iframe for our HTML file. We take the address of given files -Purple Mash blog
and the email. This lesson emphasizes the iframe code -as a linking mechanism.
We take the i-frame code, from the address bar; and use it in our html coding
-copying and pasting through notepad. We return to the elements of the html
file; this being the header and body sections (shown in notepad). We place the
iframe in the body -using the src to point us towards the location of the file.
We indicate the location of the file in parentheses (double quotes). We
right-click and paste into the html document. Then -after testing- we change the
size of the iframe to a thousand. Thus this outlines how we added the coding
group blog in the HTML file. Then we add a line-break tag, taking the next
iframe to the next line. We try something different by extracting a game from
the internet taking it into the src of the iframe viz., Spider Solitaire (a card
game). Then we test if the Purple Mash email will work I’ll be rather surprised
if it does I used you think it’ll work one day let’s have a look so lovely The
code is sent to the coding group -using PM email. We try to experiment -as its
integral to exploration and should be encouraged. Mr Bradley teaches for the
Gauteng Department of Education at Mr Erin Bradley teaches at Bryneven Primary
School. This is a public school in Bryanston, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South
Africa. Bryneven Primary has introduced coding dynamics over the years.

New Video Upload : Mr Bradley Bryneven coding club dropdowns to feed html from Purple Mash

Youtube Video Postings

Title:Mr Bradley Bryneven coding club dropdowns to feed html from Purple Mash

DESCRIPTION:
Bryneven coding presents a basic introduction to feeding Purple Mash activities through a drop down box -options in the form of an html document.

We use the code sent by email (html code) and the link in to the general links, of the Purple Mash sharing. This allows us to choose the game selection options for entering files, work.

I am sure that you can see the value of this i.e., feeding in learning activities via links -through this sort of lesson. A wonderful means to share learning content -as well as bringing the joy of games into the realm of learning. Its a great way to share learning content to entertain the world of learning. This sort of dynamic nurtures and defeats the boredom -that would undermine the desire to learn.

Hope that you enjoy! The children we teach, most teachers -have not yet explored the tools and resources at the bottom of this rainbow. Purple Mash facilitates the heights we aim to project our work (education).
